Happy twelfth birthday to my favourite golden retriever/ best friend/ personal vacuum cleaner/ Bella. What a crazy and wonderful doggie you are. Thanks for letting me dress you up in a hat and make my family gather around you as we sing/ get too excited, and make you stare down a cake for far too long than you deem appropriate before you demolish it in under thirty seconds and look around disappointedly for seconds. You’re the best. Ok enough gushing.
But seriously, you thought we were done talking about her? What a beautiful doggo she is. Much tail wags, many licks. What a good girl. And a good girl that inhaled this cake in under thirty seconds mind you, that is talent.
So, about the cake. It is doggo friendly, mostly being made of carrot and banana- although feel free to add some peanut butter if you wish, it is just one ingredient I tend to avoid in our home if possible. Also a side note, you will probably (definitely) get a few weird looks when you openly admit to making a cake for your pup, but that’s the challenge of true love for you. Enjoy. x
BELLA’S BIRTHDAY CAKE
PREP TIME: 10 minutes
COOKING TIME: 30 minutes
EATING TIME: >30 seconds (for golden retrievers)
1 cup wholemeal flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup water
2 tsp wholemeal flour
Pre-heat the oven to 170 degrees fan-forced, and prepare the base of two small cake tins with some baking paper
In a mixing bowl, add the flour, grated carrot, eggs, baking powder, and water until well combined. Add a little more water if the mixture is too dry, then pour this into the cake tins, and cook for 25 minutes, or until set.
Remove from oven to cool when done.
Meanwhile, mash the banana, and 2 teaspoons of flour in a separate bowl. Separate this into three bowls, and add different coloured dye to each bowl. This will be your ‘icing.’
Cut each cake into two, or three layers, and add the banana icing in between each piece of cake, stacking it up onto a plate. Serve to your doggo when ready.
